How did ones view Jesus when he was here on earth?

Matthew 11:19 “The Son of man did come eating and drinking, still people say, ‘Look! A man gluttonous and given to drinking wine, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ “

Matthew 12:23 “May this not perhaps be the Son of David?”

Matthew 16:13-17 “Jesus went asking his disciples: ‘Who are men saying the Son of man is?’ (14) they said: ‘Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.’ (15) He said to them: ‘YOU, though, who do YOU say I am?’ (16) In answer Simon Peter said: ‘You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.’ (17) In response Jesus said to him: ‘Happy you are, Simon son of Jonah, because flesh and blood did not reveal [it] to you, but my Father who is in the heavens did.’ “

Matthew 21:9-11 “As for the crowds, those going ahead of him and those following kept crying out: ‘Save, we pray, the son of David! Blessed is he that comes in Jehovah’s name! Save him, we pray, in the heights above!’ (10) Now when he entered into Jerusalem, the whole city was set in commotion, saying: ‘Who is this?’ (11) The crowds kept telling: ‘This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth of Galilee!’ “

Mark 3:21 Some of Jesus' relatives thought that “He has gone out of his mind!”

Mark 3:22 Others claimed that he expelled demons by means of the ruler of the demons.

Mark 5:7 A demon identifies Jesus as; “Jesus, Son of the Most High God.” Compare Matthew 8:29

Mark 11:7-10 “And they brought the colt to Jesus, and they put their outer garments upon it, and he sat on it. (8) Also, many spread their outer garments on the road, but others cut down foliage from the fields. (9) And those going in front and those coming behind kept crying out: ‘Save, we pray! Blessed is he that comes in Jehovah’s name! (10) Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David! Save, we pray, in the heights above!’ “

Luke 4:34, 41 A demon identifies Jesus by saying, “I know exactly who you are, the Holy One of God.” And other demons cried out “You are the Son of God!”

John 1:29,34 Referring to John the Baptist; “The next day he beheld Jesus coming toward him, and he said: ‘See, the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world!’... (34) ..and I have borne witness that this one is the Son of God.”

John 1:41 “..We have found the Messiah”

John 1:49 “Nathanael answered him: ‘Rabbi, you are the Son of God, you are King of Israel.’ “

John 3:1,2 “Now there was a man of the Pharisees, Nicodemus was his name, a ruler of the Jews. (2) This one came to him in the night and said to him: ‘Rabbi, we know that you as a teacher have come from God; for no one can preform these signs that you preform unless God is with him.’ “

John 3:31,35,36 John the Baptist mentions: “He that comes from above is over all others. He that is from the earth is from the earth and speaks of things of the earth. He that comes from heaven is over all others...(35) The Father loves the Son and has given all things into his hand. (36) He that exercises faith in the Son has everlasting life; but he that disobeys the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God remains upon him.”

John 4:19,25,26 “The woman said to him: ‘Sir, I perceive you are a prophet.’ … (25) The woman said to him: ‘I know that Messiah is coming, who is called Christ. Whenever that one arrives, he will declare all things to us openly.’ (26) Jesus said to her: ‘I who am speaking to you am he.’ “

John 4:42 “And they began to say to the woman: ‘We do not believe any longer on account of your talk; for we have heard for ourselves and we know that this man is for a certainty the savior of the world.’ “

John 5:18 “On this account, indeed, the Jews began seeking to kill him, because not only was he breaking the Sabbath but he was also calling God his own Father, making himself equal to God.”

It is good to notice how Jesus answers this in the following verses - Although this is a statement from Jesus (below), it is certain that others heard it.

John 5:19-30 “Therefore, in answer, Jesus went on to say to them: ‘Most truly I say to YOU, The Son cannot do a single thing of his own initiative, but only what he beholds the Father doing. For whatever things that One does, these things the Son also does in like manner. (20) For the Father has affection for the Son and shows him all the things he himself does, and he will show him works greater than these, in order that YOU may marvel. (21) For just as the Father raises the dead up and makes them alive, so the Son also makes those alive whom he wants to. (22) For the Father judges no one at all, but he has committed all the judging to the Son, (23) in order that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He that does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him. (24) Most truly I say to YOU, he that hears my word and believes him that sent me has everlasting life, and he does not come into judgment but has passed over from death to life. (25) Most truly I say to YOU, The hour is coming, and it is now, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who have given heed will live. (26) For just as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted also to the Son to have life in himself. (27) And he has given him authority to do judging, because Son of man he is. (28) Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice (29) and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment. (30) I cannot do a single thing of my own initiative: just as I hear, I judge; and the judgment that I render is righteous, because I seek, not my own will, but the will of him that sent me.”

John 7:1 “The Jews were seeking to kill him.”

John 7:12 “And there was a lot of subdued talk about him among the crowds. Some would say: ‘He is a good man.’ Others would say: ‘He is not, but he misleads the crowd.’ “

John 7:15,16, 20 “The Jews fell to wondering, saying: ’How does this man have a knowledge of letters, when he has not studied at the schools?’ (16) Jesus, in turn, answered them and said: ‘What I teach is not mine, but belongs to him that sent me...' (20) The crowd answered: ‘You have a demon...’ “

The examples in John 7 show us how although Jesus was in their midst, ones still did not seek truth but sought out their own righteousness or understanding. The religious leaders and their devout followers felt that Jesus and his followers were in the wrong. But they based that upon their own understanding and did not desire to check the scriptures carefully or to even open their eyes to see what was happening right in front of them! Today, we can hear different viewpoints but we should be determined to put our complete trust in Jehovah and his scriptures - Not in man’s thoughts or books. (2 Chronicles 16:9)

John 16:27,28 “For the Father himself has affection for YOU, because YOU have had affection for me and have believed that I came out as the Father’s representative. (28) I came out from the Father and have come into the world. Further, I am leaving the world and am going my way to the Father.”

John 17:18,20-21 “Just as you sent me into the world, I also sent them into the world. (20) I make request, not concerning these only, but also concerning those putting faith in me through their word; (21) in order that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in union with me and I am in union with you, that they may also be in union with us, in order that the world may believe that you sent me forth.”
